The Treaty of Peace and Friendship with Morocco

The oldest unbroken treaty in U.S. history, sealed by Sultan Mohammed III, who in 1777 opened Moroccan ports to American vessels, an act often described as early recognition of the United States. The Library of Congress holds a digitized copy among Jefferson's papers; the original bears the sultan's seal.
