A Yemeni farmworker dies for the union
Nagi Daifallah, a 24-year-old Yemeni immigrant and United Farm Workers strike captain who organized in Arabic, Spanish, and English, is killed by a sheriff's deputy during the Delano grape strike.
Some 7,000 Yemeni, Mexican, and Filipino mourners marched at his funeral in Delano, César Chávez among them. Thousands of Yemeni Muslim farmworkers were then working California's fields, a largely forgotten chapter of both farm-labor and Muslim American history.
